Seat valves
Omega Engineering Inc., Stamford, Conn.
SV-2000 series "black mushroom" pneumatic-angle seat valves have been designed for use in on/off fluid-control applications where an actuated ball valve might normally be used. The valves provide double the average cycle life of ball valves and are less expensive. They feature a rotatable actuator for selective positioning of the pneumatic-pilot inlet port. They include a visual position indicator, an articulated seat holder for positive scaling, and spring-loaded double PTFE seals that separate and isolate the process fluid. Sizes range from 1/2 to 2 in. NPT.

Digital front-panel and/or remote tare function is included on the process and strain-gage units. A hardware lockout is included to prevent unauthorized changes in setup. Dedicated meters are available for process, strain gage, thermocouple, RTD, thermistor, differential temperature, and pH.

Remote interface module
Mesa Systems Co., Framingham, Mass.
The remote digital transmitter interface module (DTIM) measures analog sensor signals and converts them to engineering units for direct computer interfaces via the standard I/O port of any personal computer. Up to 127 remote DTIM modules can be sampled from a master PC at a sampling rate of 180 Hz. The 16-bit processor supplies a low signal-to-noise ratio.

Air-velocity transmitter

Units are offered in three ranges: 0 to 2,000, 0 to 4,000, and 0 to 6,000 standard ft/min, all powered by 15- to 18-V dc and producing a 4- to 20-mA output signal, linearly proportional to gas-mass velocity. Ambient operating temperature limits are 0deg to 50degC; gas temperatures range from 140deg to 121degC.

Vacuum breakers
Plast-O-Matic Valves Inc., Cedar Grove, N.J.
Molded thermoplastic vacuum breakers have been designed to protect enclosed tanks from collapse or structural damage during draining or pumping and to prevent unwanted siphoning in a system. The diaphragm of series VBM valves permits them to be mounted in any position, although for tank applications mounting is recommended at the top of the tank. The valves begin operating whenever a vacuum of at least 2 in. mercury is present. At 20 in. of mercury, they will allow a rate of 80 ft3 of air per second. The breakers are available in sizes 1/2, 3/4, and 1 in. NPT.

Progressing cavity pumps
Netzsch Inc., Exton, Pa.
NEMO NESP series progressing cavity pumps mix, blend, and transport dewatered sludge. They have been designed to eliminate conveyor mess and odors while reducing installation and maintenance costs. The pumps include open-throat suction housing, breaking/mixing paddles, feeding auger, and pumping elements. The breaking/mixing paddles prevent bridging of materials. The auger force-feeds material from the throat of the pump into the rotor and stator.

Brushless servomotor
Kollmorgen Motion Technologies Group, Radford, Va.
The Platinum XT series is a three-phase brushless dc servomotor that uses an armature technology. The slotless, ironless design is made to eliminate preferred-pole position and cogging. The armature's winding produces a pure sinusoidal-back EMF waveform. The series is available in three frame sizes: 9, 12, and 16 cm. Continuous output torque range is from 85 to 390 oz-in.

Weighing assemblies
Revere Transducers, Tustin, Calif.
Corners weighing assemblies enable load cells to be adapted to weigh the contents of tanks or hoppers. The assemblies combine load cells and mounting systems as a single unit. Capacities range from 50 to 300,000 lb. The assemblies include zinc-plated or stainless-steel mounting assemblies. Hermetically sealed load-cell models are available for operations in harsh environments. Compression-overload rating is 150 percent; side-load ratings are 40 to 100 percent.

Fiber-optic illuminator
Clark-Reliance Corp., Strongs-ville, Ohio
The Lumenator uses a woven fiber-optic strip for a smooth, even light without bright spots. The illuminator uses a 5-V ac, gas-filled lamp that has a standard life of 15,000 hours. The light source is contained within a NEMA 4, 4X, and 7 anodized-aluminum housing.

Interface
Harting Elektronik Inc. of North America, Hoffman Estates, Ill.
The Han-Sensor Island has been designed as a method to interface sensors with programmable logic controllers. It uses standard Han hoods, housings, and insets as a sensor-actuator box that can handle from 4 to 16 standard industrial ac and dc sensor connectors.

Voltage transducers
LEM U.S.A. Inc., Milwaukee, Wis.
The CV series measures voltages from 0 to 3300 V with an overall accuracy of =/- 0.5 percent when operated in a temperature range of 125deg to 70degC. Bandwidth of 0 to 700 kHz is offered as well as common mode rejection. Response time is approximately 0.4 µs; dv/dt following capability is rated at a minimum of 160 V/µs.

Pinch-type valve
Indicon Inc., Brookfield, Conn.
Normally closed, Tridak model 826 uses an inert disposable-tubing system that is compatible with most materials. It incorporates an adjustable flow control and a suck-back feature. The valve is actuated with a single three-way air solenoid. An over-pinch adjustment allows more than 1 million cycles on a single piece of tubing. Inside tubing diameters are up to 1/8.

IR scanners/
thermometers

Exergen Corp., Watertown, Mass.
The D-series of handheld IR scanners/thermometers have been certified to NIST-traceable accuracy on real surfaces of unknown emissivity. Temperatures are measured with a repeatability of =/- 1degF and =/- 0.1degC. Contact errors and heat-sinking errors associated with contact devices, such as probes, RTDs, and thermistors, should not occur with the IR devices. Surface temperatures are measured in 1/10 second.
