    A study of the development of science as doctrine, process and social institution, from early Greek science to the present. Emphasis on western science, including Arab and Islamic contributions. Examination of the impact of culture on science and science on culture.

    Hist 240 History of Latin America

    A broad survey of poltical, social, and economic history of Latin America from the pre-Columbian civiliazations to the 20th century. Special empasis will be given to the complex ramifications of the interaction of European conquerors/settlers, African slaves, and the indigenous peoples of the region.

    Russia's development in last Tsarist times; the Bolshevik revolution; emphasis on Soviet communism under Lenin, Stalin, Krushchev, and Brezhnev; the Gorbachev reforms and the collapse of the USSR; nationalism and the non-Russian republics; Russia today.
