The Journal of the Association for History and Computing,
Vol. I, No. 1., June 1998

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS:

The Journal is now soliciting contributions for Vol. I. No. 2, to be published electronically in the Fall of 1998. Submissions must be received before September 30, 1998. The Journal welcomes submissions on any topic related to the use of computing in history such as the application of computers to historical research, writing, teaching or disseminating historical knowledge. We also welcome reviews of useful resources, whether electronic or not. Submissions might include:

Sections of the Journal

We will accept submissions intended for two distinct sections of the Journal, each of which corresponds to what we believe to be a valid use of this medium and incorporating appropriate technology. The first section, "Articles" consists of pieces which have been reviewed by a review board of peers on a double-blind basis and carefully edited. These we regard as finished pieces equivalent in quality to those published in any hard-copy professional academic journal.

The second section, "Works-in-Progress," will present works by authors who are soliciting feed-back from peers prior to submitting them as "articles," whether to this journal or some other venue. These pieces have been peer reviewed for inclusion in this section. An additional use of this section of the Journal might be to solicit further peer response to draft conference papers or other such works in progress.

We believe that an electronic resource should, inasmuch as possible and useful, be interactive. An important advantage of electronic materials is that, unlike printed materials, they are easily updated to incorporate new information and new perspectives. We assume, therefore, that all contributors are willing to enter into extended discussions with readers regarding their submissions. These dialogues can be conducted via updates to published pieces and via additional web pages which will be linked to pieces which inspire extended discussions. All contributors are expected to follow conversations begun by their work

We welcome each type of submission. For more information on: "Articles." For more information on: "Works-in-Progress."

For additional information please see our Style Sheet and contact the editor of that section to which you wish to submit work in the most recently posted issue of the Journal.
