Berglund Summer Institute: Learning Adobe GoLive
1) Open Golive (on computer desktop?)
- Always close everything you can before opening and give GoLive as much memory as you can afford on your computer.
- When you are moving a lot of files around (or adding links or changing fonts) GoLive can become unstable, so save frequently.
2) In "FILE" menu go: "New Site"---"Blank"
- In menu navigate to your zip disk or to student folder on hard drive.
- Name site "testsite" and check "create new folder".
- Create generic index page when prompted: "Index.htm" or "Index.html"
- visual tour of folder: page icons, site icon, folder icons, floating palettes, window commands.
- Directory structure
- navigating in structure.
3) In bar, click on small folder icon. A folder will open in your site window. Name it "Graphics"
- Collect graphics from this web site by clicking here: Graphics
- Or go any other place you choose and get 3-5 graphics.
- Drag n'drop them into graphics folder.
- Click in site window and then go to "SITE" in toolbar and "RESCAN GRAPHICS" if it is a live menu...
- Do a save.
4) Back to files window if necessary
- Open index.html
- Choose your color palette for this site. 3-5 colors
- Open color palette
- click on right most rubic's cube
- find colors you like
- click and hold on color in palette, drag and drop onto site window, colors tab
- when you want to color page, drag from colors in site files and drop onto little page icon at top of "Index.HTML"
- Go to OBJECTS palette.
- Drag and drop "Image" icon (question mark)
- Point and click to one of your graphics.
- click on image/question icon and hold
- drag line to the graphic you want
- release button.
- Do a save.
- Type in some text....
- Highlight it and go to "TYPE" menu in tool bar; play with fonts, sizes, structure, etc.
- To view page on web:
- In toolbar click on "Show in browser Icon"
- Install browser of your choice
- Click on "show in browser" and your page should open in your browser.
- Add pages to site:
- In toolbar Go to : "SITE" "NEW" "PAGE"
- Name them resources, p1, p2.
- Add color
- Add anchor on index page to one of these pages:
- Type in text you wish to serve as anchor
- point and click just as you did with graphics:
- Highlight text you wish to serve as anchor
- click on highlighted text and hold
- drag line to the page you want to anchor to in the site window
- release button.
- Do a save.
- Anchor to a page out on the web.
- Open the web page and "copy" the URL.
- Go to the text you wish to have serve as an anchor and click on it.
- In the tool bar click on the open chain link.
- Highlight "empty reference" in the inspector and paste over it.
- BE SURE AND HIT "Tab" before leaving that menu
- Go to one of your new pages.
- Drag from the objects menu the first icon, "layout grid" and drop it on your page. Using the grid gives you far more exact control of placement of graphics, text, etc. than does moving items around with carraige returns...
- Size it as you wish
- Drop "image" icon into it.
- Drop "Layout text box" into it.
- Play with sizing, moving things around, adding color, etc.
