This page is designed to introduce you to the controversy surrounding the atomic bombings. It is an issue which cannot--nor will ever--be fully understood. The ramifications of those actions still surface; arguments still wage over the decision to drop the bombs. But as a nation we must take a look at what happened at the end of the war and attempt to see it through the eyes of all the actors in the Pacific Theater. The soldiers who fought the Battle for Okinawa, the survivors who witnessed the horror of radiation and nuclear explosions, the people who stand in moral judgement of those men who made the decision to employ nuclear arms--and those men themselves--all have distinct views on what happened during those days in August 1945. It is the purpose of this site to bring those opinions to the fore, to analyze them and offer them as an introduction to confronting the current debate over historical understanding. WWII changed the face of the world. And in facing those changes we must not shy away from opposing views. Read, learn, and open your minds that all may be heard, that all may find peace, and that our nation will begin to come to grips with the day the atom parted.
