This card sports three FireWire 800 ports -- two external and one internal -- and four USB 2.0 ports -- three external and one internal. Both sets of ports are compliant with their respective standards and are backward compatible with legacy devices.

FireWire 800 is the current iteration of the groundbreaking technology pioneered by Apple and used extensively in digital video cameras as well as external drives of all types and the popular iPod music player. USB 2.0 is the latest version of the popular USB connectivity often used in printers, digital cameras, external drives of all types, and other devices, including the keyboards and mice that come with Apple's computers.

Akumen's SuperCard is US$99.95 and is available for orders now, with shipping expected at the end of December. It requires any OS that supports FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 and it comes with a bus-power adapter.
