Adobe Systems Inc. on Wednesday opened the Adobe Digital Media Store. The new online retail site offers customers digital content in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF).

The content offered by the Adobe Digital Media Store includes eBooks, links to digital magazines and newspapers, maps, research reports and other documents. Adobe and its technology partner OverDrive are working with publishers including HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Random House, Time Warner, John Wiley and McGraw-Hill, as well as a number of independent authors and small publishers. Newspapers and magazines including BusinessWeek, Popular Science, The New York Times, U.S. News and World Report and USA Today have also joined up.

Using Adobe Reader 6.0, the content served up through the Adobe Digital Media Store uses digital rights management (DRM) that enables users to view the content they pay for on multiple computers and Palm OS-based PDAs.
