Each week MacCentral brings readers the latest news and info from the world of Mac games, but there are always a few stories that don't make it onto our regular news pages. That's why we have this weekly retrospective, called The Week in Games. This is the first Week in Games we've posted in a few weeks because of the Thanksgiving holiday and an illness last week.

Alien Flux v1.5 released, now for Mac

Puppy Games has released Alien Flux v1.5, and with that release, has now supported the Mac with a Mac OS X release. Alien Flux is an offbeat 3D action-arcade game in which you must protect fuzzy creatures from absorption by alien menaces.

Burning Monkey Casino demo released

Freeverse Software has released a demo version of Burning Monkey Casino, their latest game. The game combines five different casino-style games in one; the demo limits you to five plays of each game per launch.

Captain Bumper updated for Panther

MacRun Games has posted Captain Bumper v1.15, a new version of the side-scrolling cartoon-style action game. The new version fixes Panther-related issues, improves gameplay, supports Macally's iShock II and more.

Combat Mission: Afrika Korps ships

Battlefront.com has released Combat Mission: Afrika Korps, the latest version of Big Time Software's 3D/turn-based World War II-era war game. This game brings players to the deserts of Northern Africa as Allied and German troops square off against each other. As with previous Combat Mission games, this title is Mac OS 9-only.

Dracosoft updates Amazed, Christmas Avalanche

Dracosoft has released updated versions of Christmas Avalanche, an arcade puzzle game in which you match colored blocks to win. Amazed is a maze game.

Eylau, Friedland goes OS X

By Design Inc. has released Eylau and Friedland for Mac OS X. They're OS X-updated versions of the company's Napoleonic-era wargames for the Mac that features battalion-level conflict. Each cost US$24.95.

Geneforge 2 v1.0.2 released

Spiderweb Software has released an update to their role playing game (RPG) Geneforge 2. It's a fantasy story full of monsters and magic with a sci-fi twist, in that you manipulate genetic material as a Shaper. The new release fixes "small bugs" and typos.

Hangman Pro released

Ken Winograd and Space-Time Associates has released Hangman Pro, a new version of the classic "secretly educational" word-guessing game. The game features 65 categories of words and more.

Hollow Ground v1.0.2 released

Aescapia has released Hollow Ground v1.0.2, an updated version of their ultraviolent scrolling shooter. The new release features performance improvements, improves some game elements, adds a new bonus level and squashes bugs.

Kimdom Come 2.0 released

theDailyGrind.net has released Kimdom Come 2.0, an updated version of their satirical take on Missile Command that uses North Korea as its inspiration.

MacMohaa releases Game Server Configulator

Mac Medal of Honor enthusiast site MacMohaa has released Game Server Configulator (GSC), that allows users to set up and run a custom Medal of Honor Allied Assault server. GSC has over 25 configurable options. It's in public beta testing presently.

Snow Traxx released

Kewlbox has released Snow Traxx, a holiday game for Mac OS X that puts you in control of a snowbound 8 year old who must find his way out of a part to meet his friend. It's an updated version of the classic game Snake with isometric graphics and other twists.

MacGamer has posted a review of MindRover, the game that lets you program robots for combat, exploration and other tasks. Inside Mac Games has posted a review of Halo. Apple's Games site has posted a preview of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield. The Gamesome Mac hosted the uDevGame 2003 Awards.

Closer to home

MacCentral noted that The Sims: Makin' Magic is Mac-bound. MacSoft announced that it's shipping Halo. Aspyr Media posted a playable demo of Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. Pangea Software unveiled Nanosaur II: Hatchling, a sequel to its 1998 game. Aspyr released a free Landmarks add-on for SimCity 4. Aspyr Media announced it has hired another Westlake programmer: Duane Johnson. Aspyr announced that four new games will ship this month: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness and Wakeboarding Unleashed featuring Shawn Murray.
