Andrew Briney is editorial director of the Information Security Media Group, a multimedia business that includes award-winning Information Security magazine, SearchSecurity.com and the Information Security Decisions conferences. Operated by IT media and events company TechTarget, the Information Security Media Group provides cutting-edge research, insight and commentary on security technologies and practices to more than 275,000 information security professionals.
Briney is a leading expert on IT security market, technology and business trends. For the past seven years, he has been the author and lead analyst of Information Security magazine’s annual Industry Survey, a study of IT security trends and practices within approximately 3,500 global corporations and government agencies. His commentary and research has appeared in hundreds of print, online and broadcast media, including NBC News, Fox-TV, CNBC, Newsweek, the Associated Press, Wired and The Chicago Tribune.
Briney has been a featured speaker at more than three-dozen industry conferences, trade shows and web casts. He has delivered keynote presentations/roundtables at international conferences including Comdex, Infosec World, Infosecurity New York and the Computer and Enterprise Investigations Conference (CEIC). He has also been a featured speaker at the RSA Annual Conference, Gartner Group’s Sector 5, the Society for Information Management, Techno Security, NetFocus, IAssure and ISSA regional meetings.
In 2002, he chaired a White House Town Meeting on national cyberstrategy and infrastructure protection. Briney has also chaired conferences such as the CISO Executive Summit, Infosecurity Toronto and Infosecurity New York. Currently, he is the chairman of the twice-annual Information Security Decisions conferences.
In recognition of his contribution to the advancement of the information security profession, in 2003 Briney was inducted into the Information Systems Security Association’s (ISSA) Hall of Fame, the organization’s most prestigious honor. He also was a 2004 finalist for a Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award from American Business Media. Under his direction, Information Security has received numerous editorial and design awards from organizations such as the American Society for Business Publication Editors (ASBPE).
Briney holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Colorado State University and the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and TruSecure ICSA Certified Security Associate (TICSA). He has an honorary lifetime membership in the ISSA and is a member of the Computer Security Institute (CSI) and the ASBPE.
