The book is intended as the definitive, state-of-the-art publication on decommissioning. It is proposed as a hardback to be published by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The style, structure, and format will build on ASME's Radioactive Waste Technology book and will undergo peer review. Much of the required material exists in parts and pieces, particularly in DOE and industry. Therefore, the primary task is to gather existing information and organize it. The goal is inclusion, such as "service in kind" by regulatory agencies (Federal and State), contractors, National Labs, and citizen activist groups. Correspondence with the editors and the project coordinators may take place by e-mail at straja@nars.org and moghissi@nars.org. The manuscripts may not be submitted via e-mail. ASME has been engaged to assist in the development of the Nuclear Facility Decommissioning Handbook. For questions pertaining to format or logistical issues, please contact Sorin Straja, Ph.D., Vice President Science and Technology, e-mail: straja@nars.org.
