For the past 115 years we have successfully attracted volunteer technical experts to manage, develop, promulgate and maintain ASME Codes and Standards. The increased importance of Codes and Standards in international commerce makes the on-going participation of these experts essential, so that we can ensure continued worldwide acceptance. This acceptance will help organizations using ASME Codes and Standards to continue to be competitive in the world market.

It has been my experience that individual expert volunteers have a significant influence on the direction and quality of Codes and Standards. Specific benefits to an organization participating in ASME Codes and Standards activities include:
-Participants ensure that their personal experience and the interests of their companies are considered in developing and updating standards.
-Participants become knowledgeable in the Codes and Standards in which they are involved.
-Participants are continuously aware of Code and Standard revisions.
-Participants have the opportunity to interact with other technical experts with similar interests and gain experience in teamwork on technical committees.

Such "hands-on" experience in Codes and Standards is invaluable to the sponsoring organization as well as the individual participant.

For more information, please contact the applicable ASME staff contact found under "Codes and Standards Committee Search Staff".

Specific committees for which we are seeking participants are listed below.

PTC 19.23: Guidance for Manual for Model Testing
The ASME Performance Test Codes is forming a Standards Committee intended to undertake the revision of PTC 19.23-1980, Guidance Manual for Model Testing.

The current document serves as a guide for the design & application of models in extension or supplementation of prototype tests of equipment. The Committee would update the text for consistency with current practice and understanding of the subject, possibly including validation or anchoring analytical/numerical models. Volunteer candidates for membership are being sought from industrial, academic, consulting and government backgrounds. Members will be technically qualified individuals with a concern, willingness, and financial support to participate within the charter of the PTC Committee. It is preferred that a candidate have an engineering or related science degree. It is anticipated that the Committee would meet in-person once or twice per year, for a full day, with most of the draft preparation being done at home/office or by teleconference.

A13: Scheme for the Identification of Piping Systems

The ASME A13 Standards Committee is seeking qualified individuals to serve as members of the Committee.

The Committee is responsible for maintaining the ASME A13.1 Standard, titled "Scheme for the Identification of Piping Systems". This standard establishes a common system to assist in identification of hazardous materials conveyed in piping systems and their hazards when released in the environment.  The scheme used in the standard identifies the contents of the piping systems on the basis of legends and also suggests the use of color as a supplementary means of identifying the type of hazard of the material contained in the system.  The standard is intended for piping systems in industrial and power plants, and is also recommended for piping systems used in commercial and institutional installations, and in buildings used for public safety.
